About Flies

Flies are flying insects that have evolved to coexist in association with man, causing not only discomfort due to their constant presence, but also health problems due to their ability to transmit numerous diseases.

Flies use only a single pair of wings to fly. Their wing arrangement gives them great manueuverability in flight, and claws and pads on their feet allow them to cling to smooth surfaces. Flies undergo complete development, i.e., the eggs are laid on larval food-source and when larvae are ready to pupate, they migrate to drier and cooler areas. The adult emerges from the pupa and most of them have short lives.

Flies can transmit diseases

Flies are important pests as they spread filth and they play a supplementary role in the spread of some diseases such as diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid fever, enteritis etc. Transmission is carried out by collecting the pathogens that cause these diseases in the mouth, legs or other parts of the body when they settle in garbage, faeces or decomposing material, and then it is transmitted to food, animals or to the human being by contact.
