Sewer rats eat virtually anything from grains and seeds to insects, snails, larvae, frogs, bird eggs, etc.
They prefer to eat meat but they would eat anything they can find in your garbage, compost heap or other places with food waste. Storage areas or livestock facilities are also popular. In rare cases, they prey on ducklings or chicks.
Roof rats are mostly vegetarian. Because they have neophobia (fear of new objects), they are more difficult to attract to a bait.
