American Cockroaches can be found in homes, restaurants and hotels
And any place where they can find food and water. They can often be found in kitchens and other areas where food is stored or prepared. They are particularly attracted to sugary and starchy foods but can feed on anything organic.
American cockroaches can survive for few weeks without food
They live for about a year, during which time they will go through several molts as they grow and develop. They are one of the fastest insects in the world, capable of running up to 3 miles per hour (4.8 km/h).
What do American cockroaches look like?
- LENGTH: 2.8 to 5.3 cm.
- COLOR: Brown, with light markings on the pronotum.
- WINGS: Only in adults. In the female of equal length to the abdomen. In the male they exceed the tip of the abdomen.
- REPRODUCTION: Their ootheca is dark. Incubation time: 50-55 days. A female can produce about 10 ootheca during her lifetime, with an average of 14-16 eggs per ootheca. The time required to complete its entire cycle is influenced by temperature, ranging from 6 months to 24 months.
- FECES: Similar to those of mice but without tip and grooved.
- HABITAT: Prefers warm, damp basements (optimum temperature between 21-33°C) and sewers. It will climb to kitchens on other floors to find food.
- LONGEVITY: american cockroaches on average live for 14 to 15 months.
